Finding the Perfect TV Stand
Maybe you can relate to a scene that was recently relevant to me. I went out to my local electronics retailer and bought a fantastic new Plasma TV screen. I loaded it in the back of my car and looked forward to its shiny new presence in my home.
When I got it home I took it out of the box and all of its packaging. I also unwrapped the free stand that came with it and set the whole thing up in the corner of my living room. I then stepped back to enjoy my new splurge.
Unfortunately, it looked absolutely awful. Although the television was stylish and had a great picture quality, the stand that came with it was cheap and seemed to have been constructed from a combination of plastic and MDF.
It was at this point that I realized why stores give these TV cabinets away for free - it's because it must cost them almost nothing to manufacture them.
Looking at this quite ugly piece of furniture sitting in my family room, I made a plan to see what I could find to replace it. I really wanted a TV stand that was plenty strong to hold my television without worrying if it would collapse, but also looked trendy.
This seemed like a fairly simple request. It didn't seem as though I was looking to purchase anything particularly outrageous.
As I caroused the stores and browsed a good amount of websites, I came to the realization that my simple request must have been crazy in itself. It quickly became clear that 90 percent of retailers specialize in selling cheap TV stands, while I was really looking for something with a little better quality.
I didn't want an item of furniture was mass produced. If it was owned by another dozen people in the street where I lived then it wasn't something that I'd want in my living room.
Finding something that was unique, strong, and had a true modern look to it was not as easy as I had at first hoped but I did eventually find a particular manufacturer that specialized in making cabinets and it met my needs.
There was a company called Spectral that seemed to specialize purely in cabinetry and high quality TV stands (really just cabinets that you could place your TV). Though they were not as cheap as I had first hoped, they are built to the highest standards.
I'm now the proud owner of a Spectral TV stand and it looks fantastic. Almost as great as my television set!
